----- Such a Rich Lady -----
-- Written by “Irene Naridza” -- Request by “justingochioco”
Justin was a guy who
spent years studying his photography career. Now that he had finally managed to
graduate. He realized the harsh reality of said world of work. He dreamed of
one day being a photographer of great models. Being the one who captured the
most important moments and working for the big fashion and entertainment
magazines.
There was a company
that Justin dreamed of working for. That was “FameFrame”, the most famous
fashion and celebrity advertising company in his city. His magazines, both
physical and digital, were widely read throughout the country and competed a
lot with other advertising companies in the rest of the country.
5 years had passed
and Justin was quite far from said world. At that time, he had only managed to
get a job for a local newspaper that was not widely read. Despite trying hard
and getting good recommendations. He learned that large companies were looking
for photographers with even more experience than he had.
Many more years
passed. Every time he looked for a position in his desired job, he found that
his experience was still not enough or that his standards had increased. That
destroyed him inside.
Everything got worse
days before the New Year celebration. The newspaper he worked for had gone
bankrupt. Just months after hiring him as a permanent employee instead of a
freelancer. The readers were becoming fewer and fewer and the other newspapers
were beginning to take their audience. One day, they could no longer stay in
business.
Justin couldn't
believe it. Not because he didn't know that something like this could happen to
him, in fact, he already saw it coming. So, he had started saving as much money
as he could. Only he didn't imagine it would happen so soon and so suddenly. One
day he was celebrating Christmas with his colleagues at the newspaper and the
next, his boss announced that the newspaper would be closing.
Now Justin was in
his small apartment on the outskirts of the city, a somewhat marginal and
dangerous neighborhood. He was in the dark sitting next to his bed. On the
nightstand was the little he was able to obtain after his dismissal. A
settlement checks for $4,000 and a couple of letters of recommendation.
He did not like to
look at these papers, because it reminded him of all the crying and sadness
that occurred in the newspaper after its closure. Many people were left without
jobs. And although his former boss did everything he could to get them recommendations
elsewhere, luck simply wasn't on his side.
Justin looked at the
time and left his apartment. He went down to the first floor and sat on the
edge of the condominium pool. It once had been in service. But now it was dry
and full of garbage. Justin liked to swim. He would have loved to have been able
to enjoy it. He even wanted to go to the local water park, but he never had
time because of his work.
From where he was,
Justin. He could see how the pyrotechnics that welcomed the new year
illuminated the night sky. That panorama was quite beautiful. It was something
that gave Justin hope, because another year was coming and with it, hopes of
improving his life.
While he cried, he
spoke to himself. “I wish I was successful. I wish
I wasn't here” his sobs were almost inaudible, but someone had
heard him. When the sound of the fireworks had stopped, Justin looked up.
Everything in front of him was white.
He turned his head
and realized that he was now in some kind of void. "Where am I?" he said bewildered. "Greetings, you are where the dreams of all the
chosen ones come true.” Said a little fairy who suddenly appeared.
“AHH, what
is that?” Justin
jumped scared. “Oh yes, sorry. I forgot that
you humans are a little skittish.” The fairy said, although she had
already seen that type of reaction countless times, she thought it was people
who didn't believe in magic or something like that, but she was beginning to
realize that suddenly appearing to people was obviously going to scare them.
“I am Seylah, the wishing shooting star fairy.” The fairy showed up. "Shooting Star? I don't remember asking for anything or seeing anything." The young man said. “Oh, you probably didn't see her among the fireworks, but I don't think that matters. NOW YOU HAVE A WISH.” The magic being clarified.
Justin was now more
aware of what was happening. “That's great…wait
him. This is very easy, isn't there some trick in all this?” he
said suspiciously. "No. You have been
chosen by the ancient masters to grant you any wish you want… oh, although, we
cannot fulfill anything that is intended to hurt others or yourself, that is
the only limit.” The fairy explained.
Justin was still not
convinced. “Magical beings? Ancient
masters?” he asked himself. But the fleeting memory of how his life
was made him make a quick decision. “Okay, I won't
question anything, but the truth is, this is all very strange and sudden.” He
agreed. “I wish…” he began to think
about his wish.
With the fresh
memory of his dismissal and how he could not join the company of his dreams, it
was not difficult for him to make his request. “I
wish I were very wealthy, had a position in FameFrame as a photographer and
thus could have the life of my dreams” He formulated his wish.
Seylah listened
carefully and smiled. “That's very easy, YOU
WILL GET IT” the fairy raised a wand that soon released a golden
glow. From one moment to the next, that white space was filled with that
brightness and when it cleared. Justin noticed that he was now somewhere else.
“Welcome
to your new home…,” said the
fairy. Justin was in a huge room, he recognized it immediately. It was the big
house that was on the hills of the city, spacious and luxurious. He already
knew it because until a couple of years ago it was rented for FameFrame
magazine for photo shoots.
“It's
beautiful” Justin
said just before realizing another IMPORTANT CHANGE that had occurred. His
voice was much higher pitched now. He looked down and noticed his new clothes
and his new body. “I AM A WOMAN” I
exclaim in surprise.
“Why
am I a woman?” He asked,
a little displeased. "Oh, wow. Sorry. I
think it’s because you didn’t specify.” Seylah explained. “You wanted to be wealthy, but you didn't specify whether
you wanted to be a wealthy man or woman.”
That explanation
didn't please Justin. “I wanted to be a
wealthy man, just look at me. I look old and ugly. Can’t you correct it?” asked
the man, now a woman. “Unfortunately, not, or
not at the moment at least.” The fairy said. “The shooting star you wished on is one that happens every
7 years. "I can't make corrections until the next time it
happens," Seylah explained.
Justin
couldn't believe it. “7 years? DO I HAVE TO WAIT 7 YEARS?” She collapsed on the couch
near her. She felt that she had sat on something, upon looking she saw that it
was a small purse. “I guess this is mine…” she said, quite displeased. An idea arose in her
mind, she opened it and searched for something.
“Jane
Jolie, 32 years old, Professional Photographer” She read what was now her
identification. Next to it was a different ID. It was one that recognized her
as a FameFrame employee. “Principal Photographer” she read. “See, it's not all bad,
Jane.” The fairy said. “You have your wish fulfilled. You may be a woman now, but come on,
being a woman is not bad at all.” He comforted her.
Jane
sighed and a smile finally spread across her face. “You're right and it's not
that I think being a woman is bad, it's just that I…” she looked at herself in
the mirror once again. “I didn't expect to become a… I don't know anything about being a
woman.” she
explained. "Don't worry. Your heart will guide you in that.” The fairy said.
Jane
looked at the fairy before standing up. "Alright. I will be a
woman for these 7 years. Until you appear again.” Seylah was glad to
hear that. “Well then, here we say goodbye.” The fairy said. “Oh, and you look very
pretty. Age doesn’t matter for beauty.” She complimented her.
Jane
blushed a little bit. "Thank you. You are beautiful too." She returned the
compliment. “See you, Seylah, in 7 years.” She extended her hand to
the fairy. Since she was tiny, she held out her fingers so she could shake
them. “See you, Jane Jolie. 7 years from now” she said as she said
goodbye to her and disappeared in a trail of golden brilliance.
Now that Jane was
alone, she plopped down on her couch. There she noticed a small table with an
agenda next to her. Upon reviewing it she noticed the schedule of her work, to
her surprise she knew everything she had to do. Memories and knowledge of her new
life were beginning to come to her mind. Jane already knew what to do. "Let's do it."
7 YEARS
LATER.
Another year was
about to end. No matter where you looked in the city, you could notice the
festive atmosphere. People were at parties with friends and many others were at
home with their families, waiting for the new year. One of those homes was Jane
Jolie's.
A trail of golden
brilliance made its way into the sky, from which Seylah descended. “Wow, this place looks different.” The fairy
said when she saw the house in front of her. “The
magic map indicated that this was Jane's house. It is the same as it was years
ago, but it is bigger and prettier.” The place was a mansion, it
had several rooms, it even had a tennis court and a swimming pool.
There were people
gathered in the courtyard celebrating the new year. The fairy headed inside the
mansion and looked for Jane. It didn't take long for her to find Jane. She was
sitting looking at a photo album. Seylah took advantage of the fact that she was
away from the others to get closer.
“Hello,
Jane. Nice to see you." The adult
woman turned her head. She smiled warmly as she noticed that she was that fairy
who had fulfilled her dream years ago. “Hello,
Seylah, it’s been a long time. You arrive earlier than planned. Let’s go to my
atelier room, so we can talk alone.” She stood up and together with
the fairy they went to said room.
“Mommy,
mommy, come with us to see the fireworks show.” Two little kids approached Jane. “Sure, sweethearts. But mommy has to do some things in
her atelier. I won’t delay.” She said, bending down to hug
them. “Go with your father for now.” The
children nodded before running down the hall. “But
don't miss it.” The little girl said with a smile.
Seylah felt very
tender seeing the little ones. But she avoided speaking, because she had to be
discreet. Already in the atelier she took advantage. “Are they your children? They are cute.” The
fairy said. “Yes, their names are Cindy and
Anton.” Jane said quite moved.
“It
shows that you didn't waste time in these 7 years.” The fairy whispered. Jane laughed as she
nodded her head. "Many things happened.
As I already had my wish fulfilled. I set new goals. It was hard. But today I
am here.” She looked out the window. Many people gathered in her
house, in the center of it were her beloved husband and her beloved children.
“Then
a couple of years at FameFrame. They liked my work so much. They promoted me to
head of the digital magazine. There I was able to perform easily, I loved what
I was doing. I also helped my old co-workers from the newspaper.” She pointed towards the courtyard where many
familiar faces were gathered. “I knew they
were good workers. They just needed a chance. That’s why I gave them one.”
The fairy was moved
by that. “The ancient masters knew why they
chose you. It was for your heart. You are very kind, whenever you can, you help
others. That's why you were chosen to have a wish.” Explained the
magical being.
Jane smiled. “That's what I wanted to talk to you about.” She
started to speak. “Today I have the job of my
dreams, a family that loves me and a fortune that will ensure that we don’t go
through scarcity. I don't need to change my wish. I HAVE EVERYTHING I EVER
WANTED.”
“That’s
sure, darling.” The fairy
said. “I'm glad you found happiness. I told you
that there is nothing bad about being a woman.” Jane nodded. She
had something else to say. “But I’m still
thinking… There were people from my previous job that I couldn't help. Maybe…
you can do something for them.” Her face showed genuine concern.
Seylah put on a
serious face. Jane feared the worst. "Of
course I can." Jane jumped for joy. “You know, they don't explain it to us, but I heard that
before studying your heart and intentions. The ancient masters received a
recommendation that made them put you in the list.” She explained
the magical being. “So, if you recommend
someone, I can do something for them.”
The fairy began to
flap her wings. “My work here is done. It was a
pleasure to see each other again.” She said as she looked at
Jane. "Yeah. You know, Seylah. I was very
lucky to have this opportunity. I'm glad that others who also need it will have
it.” She confessed as tears began to run down her cheeks.
“I am
also happy to make people happy. Especially if it is during these
holidays.” The fairy
said as she took one last look at Jane. “I will
come visit you in 7 years.” She announced. “UNTIL THEN” they
said in unison before Seylah disappeared behind a trail of golden brilliance.
Returned to the
patio. Everyone was talking about their goals for the next year and about all
their experiences in the year that was ending. Suddenly, there was a shake in
the pool. Everyone turned back to see what had happened.
In the pool, there
was Jane who was still wearing her dressed outfit which consisted of a cherry
red dress, black lace tights, high heels of the same color, her hair done with
a black bun and thin makeup that was beginning to run through the water.
“Dear,
are you okay?” said her
husband. Jane just started laughing. "Of
course. I always love this pool. I always wanted to dive from my studio.” The
guests were a little surprised. "Well,
then I'll join." Her husband said before diving next to her. A
couple of guests joined in.
