"I told you you’d look great, Jeremy." said a girl as she adjusted her friend's
hair. "Jenny, from now on your name will be
Jenny." she declared,
stepping back to let him admire himself in the full-length mirror after the
makeover.
The brown wig fell
past his shoulders and over the dress, a navy blue one stood out thanks to its
bow and rose-patterned buttons. A pair of brown nylon tights and black heels
completed the outfit.
The reflection
Jeremy saw in the mirror was unusual and unfamiliar to him. The tight feeling
of the tights combined with the lightness of the skirt made him a bit uneasy,
and the grimace on his face was immediately noticed by Alicia. "Don’t make that face." she scolded. "I
remind you. It was you who insisted on joining the band." she said while rummaging through her makeup box
for a red lipstick.
"Yeah, I did." he said
quietly with his newly feminized voice, sweetened by that special candy. "But I don’t get it. Why couldn’t I just do it as a
guy?" he asked rather
timidly as Alicia started applying the lipstick.
"How many times do I have to explain it, Jenny?" she rolled her eyes. "My band is girls-only. You know I care about you,
but I can’t change the rules of my project. It’s really important to me to keep
this environment." she
explained as she finished applying the lipstick.
"Alright, I get it, but... wasn’t there something less
feminine?" Jeremy
could feel the cherry flavor of the lipstick; it was hard for him not to lick
it. "Girls in rock bands wear black, tight
jeans, jackets, and spiky stuff." he added as he licked his lips again.
"First of all: stop licking the lipstick." Alicia scolded. "Second:
that's just a stereotype. Girls who like rock dress however we want. And third:
my band is pop rock, not deathcore."
Alicia was already tired of having to explain the same thing over and
over to common people.
"So… can I wear something that doesn't scream 'GIRL'?" Jeremy suggested. "OF
COURSE NOT. That was the deal for letting you in. If you want to dress less
girly, you'll have to do it as an audience member." Alicia warned.
"Fine. FINE." Jeremy
quickly said. "I'll be the sweet and girly
guitarist you want." he
said, defeated but excited to finally be part of a real band that would perform
in front of a decent-sized audience.
"Good, grab that guitar and let’s rehearse. We've got a lot of
songs to memorize." Alicia
ordered as she picked up her bass and they headed to the studio. The sound of
his heels echoed down the hallway, the rhythm reminding him of a metronome.
Jeremy sighed, still unsure about the outfit and the character he had to portray, but eager to give it his all on stage with his guitar.
