------- Part 5 – LONG LIVE THE BRIDES (FINAL) -------
–
Written by “Gale Kepler” and “Irene Naridza”
After the
meal, the chairs in front of the altar were removed, leaving space for a dance
floor. A man approached the music player, the same one used to play the wedding
music, and changed the CD.
Music began
to play, inviting the guests and the brides to take their partners to the dance
floor. Soon, everyone was dancing, enjoying the moment. In the center were the
two brides, who had taken off their heels to dance a bit, while their friends
recorded the moment around them.
From a
distance, Adelaida watched alongside Cecilia, who was happily filming with a
borrowed camera. "Do you want to dance with
me?" Domenica offered. "Sorry,
I’m keeping Cecilia company, and besides, I don’t know how to dance." Adelaida
excused herself.
"It doesn’t matter, I’m
fine here, go on." Domenica grabbed her arm and led her
along. "Just move like I do." she instructed as they began to mimic the
movements of the other guests, holding hands. Cecilia made sure to capture them
on camera too.
They danced
for a while until Adelaida felt something: the urge to pee. "I have to go to the bathroom." she said, walking away. "Let’s go together." Domenica suggested. She asked an adult for the
bathroom’s location and led her friend there.
A few steps
outside the venue, there was a small white house with a sign on the front wall.
"Bathrooms" To the left was a sign with a male silhouette and the
word "Gentlemen." To the right, a female silhouette and the word
"Ladies."
Adelaida
walked uncomfortably toward the left. "Where
are you going? Come on, here’s the girls' bathroom." Domenica said. "That’s
why, you know I’m actually a boy." Adelaida
whispered, feeling awkward about the situation. Domenica rolled her eyes. "Not now."
She grabbed her cousin’s arm and dragged her inside the bathroom.
It wasn’t
the first time Pedro had been in a girls' bathroom. When he was younger and
only with his mother, she mother used to take him to the women’s bathroom
because she didn’t want to leave him alone with older men who might have
unknown intentions. That changed as he grew older.
But now, at
this wedding event, the little feminized boy felt like he was doing something
wrong. He went into one of the stalls and realized a problem: he couldn’t undo
his dress no matter how hard he tried to reach the zipper nor the ribbon.
He came out
and tried to ask his cousin for help. "Oh
no, don’t take off the dress to pee." she said. "Just lift your skirt and use the toilet. And don’t
forget, you need to sit. Oh, and remember to clean the seat before
sitting." Adelaida thanked
her for the instructions and went back into the stall. She followed her
cousin’s advice.
Fortunately,
the bathrooms weren’t too dirty. In fact, they were pretty clean and had air
fresheners that made the time there more pleasant. It felt a bit strange to sit
to pee, but Adelaida admitted it was actually a bit more comfortable that way.
Once she
was done, she washed her hands and adjusted her dress before leaving. Both
cousins returned to the dance floor and were met with a surprise. Romeo was on
the stage where the altar had been. He was singing while his band played
instruments, and the guests kept dancing.
"With just one kiss. I’m happy with her. I can fall in love,
without words, Cupid will strike." he sang. The brides seemed to be enjoying the
song a lot. "Romeo’s back!" Adelaida exclaimed. "He came
with a flower crown to apologize for the interruption. He spoke with Mom Nadia
and then got up to sing." Cecilia explained. "He has a
nice voice." Adelaida agreed.
Romeo
indeed had a lovely voice, but Adelaida noticed the bandage on his right hand,
as if he had hurt it while hitting something, even noticing some red stains.
Adelaida
and her family already knew Romeo, as he was a famous bachata singer, but
seeing him there in this setting was curious and even surreal. After a few
minutes, Adelaida asked him for a picture, which he happily obliged.
The dance
continued for a while until the final event of the night was announced: the
departure of the brides. "I guess we should say goodbye." said
Cecilia. "Where are you going?" Adelaida
asked. "To my moms' honeymoon. It’s a tradition for
newlyweds to go on a honeymoon, kind of like a vacation. We’re going to
'DreamWish Landia,' the one in the United States." she
explained excitedly.
Both
Adelaida and Domenica hugged their friend. "I hope
we can see each other again." Cecilia
said. Adelaida felt a bit sad because she knew that wouldn’t be possible, no
matter how much she wished it. "Yeah,
hopefully, but I live far away." she
replied, a bit embarrassed. "That doesn’t
matter. If you try, we’ll definitely meet again." Domenica said, which made Adelaida reflect on her
words.
"After this, there was no way ‘Adelaida’ could ever be seen again,
right?" she asked
herself.
A white car
appeared outside the venue. It was time for the final goodbye. The guests lined
up along the path to the car. The brides and their daughter passed by, with the
flower girl pushing Cecilia’s wheelchair.
Everyone
threw rice as they walked by. Some of the guests couldn’t hold back tears of
joy once more. The three got into the car, a white convertible.
"Before I go, I want to thank you one last time." Lurdes began a speech. "For a long time, I felt confused. I knew what I
felt, but I also knew that people didn’t understand. When I grew up, I faced a
reality that told me, both directly and indirectly, that my heart was wrong and
that I had to change. I really tried. I married someone who, at first, was kind
and caring." her voice began
to break.
"One day in June, while walking in the park, I met a sweet girl who
had broken her heel. Since I was picking up my clothes from the dry cleaner, I
offered her a pair of my flats. She gave me her address, where I could pick
them later." She glanced at
Nadia, smiling by her side.
"I told her that she could visit me later
that day, and I would have her shoes washed." Nadia continued the story. "She arrived at the agreed
time. I offered her coffee because her shoes were still drying. That day, we
talked for hours. By the time we realized it was night, we said goodbye. But it
wasn’t the last night we saw each other. The next day, we met again at the park
for a chat, and it became our morning routine. We always jogged in the park,
sharing a lot about ourselves. We got to know each other better and better."
Nadia recounted, and everyone listened attentively.
"Then one day, after saying goodbye after
a meeting, she gave me a kiss on the cheek, and I felt something different from
all the other times I had said goodbye like that. I felt a warmth I had never
felt before. The next day, when we said goodbye, instead of her kissing me on
the cheek, I kissed her on the lips. For a moment, I thought I had made a
mistake, but she just smiled. From that day on, we became even closer. We
exchanged phone numbers and talked for hours at night. One day, during one of
our usual meetings, I asked her, ‘What do you feel for me?’"
Nadia
looked deeply into the eyes of the woman who was now her wife, remembering the
moment she had asked the second most important question of her life. "For a second, I hesitated and said I only saw her
as a friend. I didn’t want to lose her, but she just squeezed my hand and said
those words I still remember: ‘I LOVE YOU.’" There was silence among the guests, only broken
by some sobs, even from Romeo and his friends.
"That was the day I felt I could let go of a weight that had been
on my shoulders for so long. It was like finding what I didn’t even know I
needed. From that day on, we became lovers. We wanted to be together. We had
finally found each other. But there was still one problem: I was already a
married woman. I loved my husband. It was with him that I had my beloved
daughter. But I realized the love I felt for him wasn’t the same as the love I
felt for her. So, I did the right thing and ended things with him." Lurdes didn’t feel proud of how she
had broken up with him, but she knew it was the right thing because she
couldn’t give him the love he was looking for, nor could he give her the love
she needed.
"When we started living together, I asked
her the most important question of my life. I asked her, ‘Will you marry me?’
The answer, you all know it." The guests, especially Adelaida,
applauded their inspirational story.
"Thank you all for being here, thank you for joining us in this
special moment, but most importantly, thank you for accepting our love and
understanding that there’s more than one way to do things." Lurdes spoke through tears. "Thank you for supporting us
when we needed it the most." Nadia concluded. Those words
touched the hearts of many.
Cecilia was
holding her two mothers' hands when the car's engine finally started. They all
waved goodbye to the car as it drove off.
“LONG LIVE THE BRIDES” Adelaida shouted, with feelings that came from her heart.
Now the
Chabla family was leaving at the beginning of this new stage of their lives,
ready to live life as they always wanted, loving each other without
restrictions. Always having each other.
THE END
