SOMEWHERE IN ECUADOR.

Damn it, Eloísa showed up early at my apartment. I told her like a hundred times not to come before 3:00 PM to work on that university assignment. I can’t take off my clothes and makeup that fast.

I got it! I’ll just not answer the door when she knocks and go change... NO, that won’t work. She’s so stubborn, she’ll probably wait outside until 3:30 and keep calling me. If I just walk out at that point, SHE’LL THINK I’M BEING RUDE.

DAMN IT. WHY DID WE EVEN GO BACK TO IN-PERSON WORK? Life was perfect with the online format. I could wear my favorite skirts, tights, and dresses. Even makeup. Not having to turn on the camera and just talking through the mic, I COULD PROTECT MY SECRET. I COULD PROTECT LIZBETH.

Wait, I’ll change clothes, wipe off my face, and climb down through the window. That way I can pretend I was out doing something… What am I saying? I’M ON THE THIRD FLOOR. I can’t climb down without either dying or attracting way too much attention.

Knock knock knock “Edison. I’m here.” Knock knock knock “Let’s start early so we can finish early.”

DAMN IT, SHE’S ALREADY AT THE DOOR… To hell with it. I’m in my house… well, not a house, it’s an apartment. And it’s not even mine, I rent it with 40% of what I earn at my part-time job.
Why am I rambling?... What was I saying? … oh, right.

TO HELL WITH IT, THIS IS MY HOME, MY RULES. I can dress however I want in my personal space. I HAVE THE RIGHT TO FEEL SAFE HERE.

Lizbeth walked confidently toward the door. The sound of her heels could already be heard from the other side, where Eloísa was waiting, completely unprepared for the meeting she was about to have.
