“MY LEG, MY LEG!” Xander
groaned. They had managed to get off the highway and into the back roads
leading to the forest. They were still far from home, but at last, out of
danger, except for the rescued damsel.
Ruby,
recalling her nursing classes, quickly assessed his condition. “It doesn’t look like a fracture, but it’s definitely a
nasty hit... Oh, wait. DAMN IT.” she cursed upon finding something
in his left leg. “What? What is it?” Xander asked, alarmed.
“Don’t move.” Ruby instructed. “It’s
a glass shard. You must have embedded it in your leg when you fell onto the
trampoline.” she explained, pulling out a gauze pad from her bag. “I can’t treat this properly; we need to take you to a
hospital.” she said as she prepared to immobilize the shard.
“No. No way.” Xander
protested. After everything that had happened that day, all he wanted was to go
home. Without thinking, he hastily yanked out the piece of glass, believing it
would prevent a hospital visit where curious eyes would be everywhere.
Instantly,
a wet sensation spread over his leg. “NO, YOU
IDIOT!” Ruby shouted. “GIRLS, WE NEED
TO APPLY PRESSURE!” Xander didn’t understand what was happening
until he touched his leg, where warm liquid was pooling rapidly. He lifted his
hand and saw it coated in an unmistakable red liquid.
Xander
collapsed onto the forest floor, feeling an eerie cold creep up his body. The
girls were frantically exchanging words, but he couldn’t make out what they
were saying. In an instant, everything faded into darkness.
It
was like a lucid dream, except there was nothing there, just an endless void of
darkness. A sudden breeze made him aware of gravity, his entire body feeling
heavier than it should.
Then,
suddenly, there was light, a blinding light. Xander squinted his eyes, and once
they adjusted, he took in his surroundings. He was in a small room. Daylight
streamed in through a high, narrow window. He lay in a small bed, surrounded by
old, heavy-looking cabinets, a few stacked boxes, and a chair placed in front
of the bed.
“This place is weird.” he
muttered, trying to sit up, but something stopped him. He looked down at his
legs. Something was restricting his movement. A dull pain flared in that area
each time he tried to move.
He
pulled back the white sheet. Underneath, his left leg was trapped in a strange
metal contraption, chained to the bed. Xander’s scream echoed down the hallway
of that mysterious place.
He
desperately tried to free himself, but the chain was sturdy, refusing to budge.
The pain in his leg discouraged him from struggling further. Taking deep
breaths, he tried to think of an alternative.
With
a clearer mind, he examined the contraption. It consisted of metal rings
clamped around his thigh and just above his knee, connected by thick metal
rods. Soft, cushion-like protrusions pressed against his leg. Like a strange,
handcrafted splint.
Beneath
it, bandages covered the spot where the glass had pierced him. The fabric was
stained. The chain was short but solid, with one end wrapped around a metal rod
and the other secured to the bed frame, both locked with small padlocks.
He
took a moment to check the rest of his body. The gag, tights, and skirt were
gone, but he still wore the wig. The leotard remained snug on his body, even
keeping the stuffed bra that gave the illusion of breasts. Xander tried to
remove it, but it clung tightly to his skin.
Other
minor bandages covered his arms and legs. When he touched those areas, he felt
a faint sting. “Probably just scrapes.” he murmured, his throat
aching.
Suddenly,
the door opened. Marian and Daniel entered. The latter looked relieved to see
Xander was awake. “Where… where am I?” he asked. “In the basement of our apartment complex.” Marian replied.
“Why is this thing on my leg?” His
throat pain forced him to lower his voice. “When
we got back here, Ruby stitched up your wound. She’s at her part-time job now,
but she said it was a good idea to immobilize the area.” she
explained.
“You’ll need to see a
doctor. But that will have to wait.” Marian sat in the chair, settling in for a
conversation. “You could have just left me at a hospital from the start. What am I doing
here?” he muttered, avoiding Marian’s gaze.
“As you know, a lot
happened yesterday. Things that we all set into motion.” she began. “We
handed you over to the fraternity guys because we thought it was only fair for
you to feel what we felt when you harassed us.” Daniel added.
“We want to propose that we
all move on from this. You will never harass another girl again, and we won’t
take any more action against you.” Marian
offered, though it seemed like a ridiculous deal.
“Do you have any idea what they were about to do to
me? You expect me to just forget that?” he
objected angrily. “You wanted us to forget what
you did to us.” Marian countered.
“And
if I don’t accept? What, are you going to keep me here like a prisoner?” Xander
scoffed.
“No. But the girls and I
can gather countless accusations and funds to file a class-action lawsuit
against you. We wouldn’t escape unscathed from a lawsuit you might file against
us, but you wouldn’t either.” Marian
explained, crossing her legs.
“Laws against violence
toward women are much harsher than those against men. Plus, the constitution
grants us lighter sentences than you would get. Considering you have multiple victims;
things will be much harder for you. It would be such a scandal that even your
father’s connections wouldn’t help.” Daniel nodded, standing behind his sister.
“Go ahead. Sue us, and
we’ll all end up in prison. But while we’ll serve only a few months or years
and get our lives back on track, you’ll have decades left to serve. You’ll rot
in some dark cell.” Marian
never broke eye contact with him.
Xander
fell silent. His ego screamed at him to lash out, to hit her. But the fresh
sensation of vulnerability, something entirely new to him. It filled him with
fear. If she was right, it was all over. Not only would he be locked away in a
horrible place, but his future would be ruined. His father’s reputation and his
own would be destroyed.
“Fine.” Xander
said after a long sigh. “It’s a deal.” He extended his hand,
and Marian shook it. She smiled in satisfaction. They had secured Xander’s
silence and resolved the mess they had dragged all the girls into.
Filing
a lawsuit from the start had been the right course of action, but Marian and
Daniel had craved revenge. Too late, they realized their emotions had driven
them to cross a red line.
While
they could handle serving time, the other consequences; losing their university
placements, derailing their life plans, and carrying a permanent stain on their
records. It would be a price too high to pay. Neither side had anything to
gain. Only everything to lose.
Daniel
handed him the key to the chain. “For safety
reasons, I think you should keep that metal thing on your leg for a while. Just
return it later.” he said.
Xander
stared at him for a moment. Daniel still looked like a girl; wearing an
oversized hoodie, tight leggings, and his long hair tied in a ponytail draping
over his right shoulder. He looked completely different from how Xander had
interacted with him before.
“Daniel… is that really you?” Xander
asked timidly, taking the key. “Danny” he responded instantly. “Yeah, it’s weird going to university as a girl when I’m
actually a guy. It’s even against the law.”
Danny scratched the back of his neck awkwardly.
“Since no one manages
things properly, and since it was part of our plan… I’ve been going like this
for a couple of months, and no one’s noticed.” he chuckled nervously. “Now that we’ve settled… our differences, there’s no
reason for me to keep doing it.” He concluded.
"You lived as a
girl at university for two months just to get revenge on me... Was I really
that bad?" Xander was finally beginning to realize the
impact of his actions on others. "Of
course. Crude jokes, groping, public humiliation. How did you never think that
it bothered us?"
Xander
fell silent out of shame and because he didn’t know what to say. Even he
couldn’t understand how he had done all those things without ever stopping to
think about it. A complete lack of responsibility for his actions.
As
he searched deeper in his mind, he realized that he had never stopped to think
about it. That was the answer. One that made him uncomfortable. He didn’t want
to think about it.
“What about Tomas?” he
asked as he freed his leg. “Ruby called us and
confirmed that he’s the hospital. A few broken bones and several bruised.” Marian
said as she took a bag from one of the cabinets and handed it to Xander. It contained
male clothes.
“I mean…What
are we going to do with him?” he asked as he put on a jacket. “The girls and I are done with him.” Marian
answered. “But if you want to do something on
your own. We won’t stop you. Just leave us out of it.” she added firmly before leaving the
room with Daniel.
“Of
course I will.” Xander muttered.
